Port of Maassluis takes delivery of stairwells for new Lely business premises

Maassluis, July 17, 2012 – Building activities for the new Lely business premises in the Dijkpolder are progressing smoothly and the first contours of Lely's new international head-office area are taking shape. After the impressive transport of the king-size trusses, earlier in July, the prefab stairwells will be shipped on Wednesday, the 18th of July.

The two steel stairwells (4m wide, 6m high and 13m long) for the future premises have also been produced by steel manufacturer Hollandia. They are transported straight from the factory in Heijningen on an inland navigation vessel and discharged in the Port of Maassluis in the course of the afternoon. From there, they are loaded on trucks that move on to the building site. On the following day, the steel stairwells are moved in position using a big crane; on the building site, the stairwells will be finished with prefab concrete elements, steel staircases, intermediate landings as well as banisters.

All building materials are delivered at the building site in a ready-made condition and there all elements are put together like a kind of jigsaw puzzle. Obviously, time is saved by using factory-made prefab building elements, but in addition a higher production quality can be achieved.
